Our Client has an immediate need for an Inventory Manager who will be responsible for procuring medications and supplies from appropriate sources and ensuring proper storage to maintain their quality and integrity for our partnership with the State Office of Pharmacy Services (SOPS) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  This position develops a system (i.e. stock cards) to actively manage medication and supply inventories ensuring adequate stock of medications, acceptable inventory turns, purchasing contract compliance, effective cost management, and compliance with laws and regulations at our partner SOPS facilities located throughout Massachusetts.   As a member of the team you will be part of a group of professionals who perpetually work to improve processes that enhance patient care, manage risk, integrate technology and align operations.  Ideal candidates for our team are energetic, engaging and are able to build partnerships within all levels of the pharmacy, hospital and administration.   

Position Overview:
As an Inventory Manager you will provide the SOPS system with opportunities (consignment, new generic, new approved vendors, new processes) to reduce drug and supply costs.  This position is also responsible for procuring or facilitating the procurement of medications for patients as prescribed by a licensed professional to ensure proper patient treatment/care at all times along with preventing avoidable drug stock-outs.  Guided by the Team Covenant we expect our employees to continually provide courteous and professional support throughout all their interactions.
Position Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Registered as Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) in good standing
  • Registered Pharmacy technician in the state of Massachusetts and in good standing
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of 3 years as certified pharmacy technician in an inpatient hospital setting
  • 2+ years of previous pharmacy buying experience
  • Experience with automatic dispensing machines; barcode scanners; repackaging machines; carts/trays/bins
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, with advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Prior experience utilizing wholesaler purchasing systems
  • Prior experience with USP 797 regulations
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Inventory Management: (Ensures adequate medication supplies, purchasing contract compliance, accurate billing, and compliance with laws and regulations)
  • Coordinate high volume ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing of pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations and under proper storage conditions including potential off-site locations.
  • Participate in development and implementation of strategic planning as it relates to supply chain management.
  • Processes and arranges for final disposition of unusable medication and supply inventory from outdates, recalls, discontinuations through manufacturers, wholesalers and related parties.
  • Systematically sets inventory par levels necessary to meet patient needs in the context of historical usage, clinical reviews of patient mix and disease states, and financial parameters. Monitors stock levels of medications and supplies.
  • Monitors purchasing statistics (e.g. inventory turns, positive and negative inventory events).
  • Maintains appropriate information sources for pharmaceuticals and related supplies to facilitate appropriate inventory management through print, electronic and other media.
  • Coordinates and facilitates special purchase requests (e.g. non-formulary medications, office supplies, etc.) and assist pharmacy staff in compliance with non-formulary medication policies and procedures.
  • Monitor status of drug shortages and impending release data in order to help identify and plan for the event of stock outs based upon use and availability and keeps Buyers at other SOPS facilities informed and updated.
  • Manage recalls back to the wholesaler, manufacturer and/or reverse distributor.
  • Regulatory compliance: (Maintain professional competencies)
  • Prepares and submits reports detailing wholesaler, IV and other purchasing data.
  • Maintain perpetual inventory of cases/pallets of repackaging supplies. Ensure adequate supplies.
  • Provides inventory reports to ensure proper budgetary planning.
  • Provides necessary information to the System Clinical Director to calculate cost-avoidance data.
  • Provides weekly and year-to-date purchase data for the weekly scorecard.
  • Detail other measurements or data deemed appropriate and necessary.
  • Revenue and Financial Management
  • Maintain Charge Master.  Add/Delete charge codes for medications that have been added to Formulary
  • Review Charge Master weekly for price changes or deletions. Add/inactivate Charge codes. Monitor computer system to ensure charge codes updated and entered correctly.
  • Maintain formulary items (tagging) in database systems.
  • Process wholesaler, department charges, daily invoices and weekly statement reconciliation as required.
  • Monitor/review group purchasing (GPO) contracts for:  Manufacturer price changes and their effect on purchases along with availability of new to market drugs – brand or generic.
  • Checks medication, medical supply, IV stock, IV supplies, repackaging supply par levels daily or as appropriate before placing order.
  • Check-in inventory and put away stock as required.
